Most of the time, our blog is about topics that delve into the entrepreneurial spirit as it relates to your business. But there is a second side that often goes missing when we choose to go into business. And that is the person behind the brand name. We throw so much of ourselves into the business that we forget where it ends and we begin. It’s easy to get lost in the daily work of getting people passionate about your product. But it is important to remember to take a moment and recharge your own battery and your own passion. Here are a few ways to do that:
You Gotta Work: We all know that being active sends our body endorphins, and that makes you happy. But it also moves energy throughout the body. Sitting at a desk can create blocks in that energy. Getting out and getting active will not only put you in a better mood, but it will help your energy redirect itself. If you can get outside in the sun, you’ll get some Vitamin D and fresh air. And if your exercise of choice has a social component, you’ll be able to take your mind off work for a bit. You’ll feel healthier all over.
Unplug: In the modern age, we are all attached to our phone, tablet, laptop and computers. At times these become electronic leashes. It’s good to take a break from electronics and give yourself a chance to take in the world around you in a different way. Maybe go for a walk, read a book, talk to a friend or family member, or just lie still and see if you can catch a nap.
Breathe: Sometimes the simple act of breathing can help center us and help us focus. Close your eyes and focus on yourself and your lungs. Just three or four of these can really aid you in feeling more relaxed and letting go of stress. If you have the inclination, light a candle or incense when you do this. Carry that fragrance in your head for times when you can’t.
Indulge Yourself: Sure, you may not have time for a day at the Spa (although that would be lovely). Instead do something small that you’d normally skip over. Have a scoop of ice cream. Go for a walk in the park. Read a trashy magazine. Have a cookie with your latte. Take off the morning and go fishing. Stay up late and watch a movie. Do something that calls to you.
These are just a few things to get you started. Remember, when you feel good, you’ll do good things. Take a moment and recharge yourself. You'll be glad you did.
